Heathrow Airport flies to 180 destinations in 90 countries making it one of the busiest airports in the world. The newly added terminal 5 building allows Heathrow to cater for more travelers and with the added news that the 3rd runway has been given the go ahead the list of destinations will continue to grow.
The most popular destination flying from Heathrow is New York, which it has been for the last few years followed by the romantic capital of the world Paris, closely followed by Dublin. Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Edinburgh, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, Dubia and Glasgow make up the remaining top ten visited destinations from Heathrow.
Long distance flights have become increasingly popular as travelers seek out exotic places and new experiences. Gone are the days that the ideal holiday would be a short flight to Spain. These destinations that were once only for the student back packer are for the masses. Airlines supplying long haul flights have updated aircraft with personal TV's with on demand movies, radio, games on the backs of airline seats that will keep you amused though out the length of your journey. The comfort of the passengers has also been catered for on a lot of flights with wider seats and extra leg room, the quality of meals on most flights has also improved dramatically.
Although the trend is up for long haul destinations, a lot of travelers still prefer an element of familiarity with English speaking countries as there 1st choice. Popular places such as the USA, Canada, Australia, and the Caribbean speak mainly English and their day to day lives reflect that of our own. Exploring Far East destination allows the more adventurous traveler to see more of the culture and take you out of your comfort zone, which is always exciting.
The current economic climate will also have a big affect on people traveling to Europe as the British pound continues to lose strength against the Euro and the dollar, making the Far East and Asia seem a tantalizing place where the cost of living and food, drink are relatively cheap compared with their European counterparts. Although this may not be the case if you want to purchase western products and they can often be more expensive than back home.
The choice of Heathrow Destinations is second to none and even if you can't get a direct flight, indirect flights are always available. So if your traveling for pleasure why not make that stopover that a little a longer and explore the city before setting off again. A stopover at Heathrow allows easy access to London with direct tube links to the center and there are a range of London Heathrow Hotels located near the airport to suit all budgets
